And Then...A STAR APPEARS!
By Moe Click
This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
- Matthew 1:18
The story surrounding the birth of Jesus makes me
laugh. In fact if I could sit down with
Mel Brooks, I think that we could produce a comedic classic. For a moment, imagine this is your family and
put yourself in the position of each of these people. Now, try to envision the conversations that
would ensue:
· A teenage daughter approaches her parents and
says, “Mom and Dad, I’m pregnant but…”
· The parent’s first question would be, “And you
say the father is, who?...”
· The sweet, young woman’s grandmother might say,
“Mary, you know you can tell your Nana anything. What really happened?...”
· A young woman approaches her fiancĂ© and says,
“Joe, the strangest thing happened to me last night…”
· The fiancĂ©, with some frustration, requests,
“Well, can’t I at least name him? I was
thinking, Gordon. And by the way, how do
you know it’s a boy?...”
· Overheard in the halls of Nazareth High School,
“Dude, check this out…”
· The parents of a pregnant, unwed teen are making
plans, “Honey, let’s get her out of town for a while? Her and crazy, Aunt Elizabeth were made for
each other...”
· An expectant mother that is due any day is told,
“Just pack your stuff and get on the donkey…”
· That same tired, expectant mom is told, “Honey,
it looks like they lost our reservation…”
· A reluctant spouse further explains, “They have
a place for us, but I don’t think the maids have cleaned it…”
· A scared, first time mom to-be realizes there
isn’t time to get to the hospital, “Joe, I think my water just broke. Did you watch those YouTube videos like I
asked, just in case?…”
· The minutes-old, new parents discuss, “Where can
we lay him down?...”
And then… A STAR APPEARS!!!
This story should not only make you laugh, but it should
also give you hope. In the middle of
whatever your family looks like this Christmas season, we can be assured of
this.
And then…A STAR APPEARS!!!
(No lack of
reverence and awe is intended in today’s devotional.)
