Doomsday Deceivers - Lenten Devotional for March 20th

Please read the scripture from The Message, then meditate on it as if you were a disciple
 then meditate some more.

I don’t know what “possessed” them – but Peter and James and John and Andrew got Jesus alone and asked “When will we know it’s the end?”

Those four told the rest of us later that Jesus talked about Doomsday Deceivers, false Messiahs, wars, earthquakes, famines – and then it will get worse. You will be drug into court. Family members will kill each other.

Then Jesus said – “Oh, but don’t worry when you are drug into court, the Holy Spirit will tell you what to say. Just stay to the end. You’ll be saved.”

Something must have gotten lost in the translation because that does not sound comforting at all. If I’m gonna be saved – I want to be saved from the wars and earthquakes and famines and killing. If you survive all that, what is there left to be saved from???

I’d rather die than live through all that. I didn’t follow Jesus three years for life to get harder! What happened to all the healings and miracles – the good stuff! Now all we hear is the bad stuff!

What happened to you Jesus?
What happened to me?
