A Valuable Hope for all - Rev. Parker Benson

Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They
will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not be faint.
                                                                             Isaiah 40.31

Our hope is in the Lord. I cannot imagine being without that hope. Outside of God there is no hope; life becomes meaningless, pointless, and inconsequential. Life becomes, in a word, hopeless.

Imagine a person who finds his child has just been involved in a terrible accident. The child has been hit by a car while riding his bike in the neighborhood near his house. The man races to the hospital only to find that his 8 year old son has already been taken to surgery. He takes the elevator to the surgery floor and goes in the waiting room. He waits patiently for what seems like hours when finally the surgeon comes out in cap and gown. The surgeon removes his mask and says, “We’ve done all we can do. It was a very difficult surgery. The next 24 hours are crucial. All you can do now is pray.”

The man says, “Oh, I don’t believe in God. I don’t believe
in prayer. I’ll just sit over here and read a magazine.” Can you imagine that? I can’t. I cannot imagine someone being that shallow or callous. I cannot imagine someone refusing the HOPE we have in God. To deny God is to be without
hope. When we embrace God, we have hope. We have hope and a future. God has declared,

For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

As Christians, our hope is in God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. We celebrate His coming
every year at this wonderful time called Christmas. Hope
has come into the world and we worship the Christ child
in the spirit of Christmas and in the truth of eternal life through Him. Christ is our hope and oh, what a valuable hope he is!
