Keep the mission moving forward - Rev. Brenda Carroll

Dear wonderful people,

It is so good to have a day of worship like last Sunday. The Morning Glory service is always a good way to start the day. And what a grand time of worship we had in the sanctuary and Asbury Hall at 10:30!!!!! I truly wish I could have been two places at once. I was
in The Crossing, which was celebrating youth Sunday. WOW! INCREDIBLE. The speakers, the music, ushers, greeters, those who were there to support others….. it was exciting, moving, challenging. Stephen and company did a wonderful job of caring for every detail and providing a wonderful worship experience for all of us. I am so grateful to Stephen,
Asa, and Chris, a dedicated group of volunteers, some very involved parents, and the greatest young people imaginable. It is very inspiring to hear youth give testimony to how much the youth program means and how they love their church. We see many signs that
the love of Jesus is at work. What I did not witness was the great time in the
sanctuary celebrating Children’s Day.

But I hear stories of how amazing it was. What a great time of rebuilding has occurred in our children’s ministry. Denise and all of her great volunteers have given much time, created lots of fun, and the momentum is wonderful to behold. Through Sunday School, Kids Own Worship, and Choir, the children receive three great hours of Christian Education each
week, to supplement the faith nurturing that happens with parents at home. Plans are underway for a great Vacation Bible School (www.1stchurchevents.org) as well.

As I shared at Church Council, I feel so blessed to work with a staff who are all, 100% of them, passionate about the ministry with which they are entrusted. I am excited about the movement of God’s spirit in our midst, the new people who are visiting each service, the things planned for the summer. It is crazy hard to leave a place like this….at a time like
this. Yet, there is so much more God has for this congregation. New energy and ideas are critical for the important work to be done in the future. Renewed commitment and growing faith and “all-in” Christians are vital to keep the mission moving forward. While there is so much joy from Sunday's worship…..there are also many grave situations being experienced by members of our church family. It is so important that we pray for one another, and share
supportive acts with one another in times of crisis or illness or hardship. We are gifts to each other from God. Our love and care for each other matters infinitely.

This Sunday we will celebrate the graduating seniors as well as Senior adults. After worship there will be a catered lunch. Y’all come, but please make a reservation by calling the church office TODAY or visit www.1stchurch.org

As we celebrate these special people, we will also be remembering our mothers. I have such wonderful memories of my mother’s unconditional and deep love. I plan to honor her memory by donating a square foot of the Habitat build (learn how to do the same on page 5). My mother never owned a home. I am thrilled to help make someone a new home owner
this fall. This church has been part of a dozen Habitat builds. Please join me in using this opportunity to celebrate the home where you were raised…not just a house… but a home!
Thank you, wonderful people! And I pray God’s blessings of peace for you throughout this week.

Brenda
